This upcoming house is designed for a family associated with the textile business in Surat, India; the residents include ageing parents with one child. The site sharing one wall with an existing adjoining building, the aim was to fully facilitate natural light, ventilation, and privacy despite the challenging site constraints. The initial vision for the design incorporated a floating box of concrete on a plinth enveloped in sliding timber screens. The stone cladding wraps the common wall which is naturally lit with a glass roof. The final design also consisted of refined interior details including patterned tiled floors and custom joinery.
